Unique Garden Decor - Put in Your Imagination and Creativity

Gardening is not a work that has to be completed somehow. Majority of the people who have a garden in their house prefer looking after or at least supervising the work going on so that they can give direction to their talent and art. It brings relaxation and excitement in your life and fills in you enthusiasm to live a better life. If you are also one of these people who consider gardening as a hobby, you must be looking for decorating your garden in a unique and attractive manner. Decorating a garden is not difficult these days because you have lots of items available both on online stores as well as in your locale.

When you are taking care of your garden, you need to do a few extra things in addition to taking care of the plants, watering them and providing then additional nutritional supplements for their healthy growth. If you wish to have unique garden décor, you need to plan and prepare before you actually implement them. In fact, it is not a matter of some fixed style or designing that can be advised here. You need to have a look in your garden and then decide what you would like to have there.

The size and shape of your garden area matters a lot, especially when you go deciding for a unique garden décor. There are large number and varieties of home decorative items and using your creativity and imagination you can give a unique and exclusive look to your garden. Make use of statues and fountains if you have sufficient space in your garden or use outdoor flower pots if you have limited space in your garden.

However, when you have decided to buy outdoor flower pots to decorate your garden it is better you opt for water resistant material and take special care of these pots so that they do not get wear away by the harsh weather conditions that they have to face outdoors. Unique garden décor can be installed and completed best by you because you know well what you would like to have in your garden.

Archery Arrows for Beginners - Hobby and Quality Family Time

We've come a long way from "Lancelot" and "King Henry VIII", where bows and arrows were used for sustenance and war. We now have an era where guns have replaced such weaponry and archery has become a sport and hobby. Archery as a sport has brought with it many improvements in the equipment as we see it today. This article touches briefly on some, but not all of these great improvements.

Choosing the Correct Arrow Type

For many people, archery has become a lifetime hobby. For instance, many will produce their own arrows, and become very creative in the process. The materials to consider in choosing the proper arrow are as follows:

* Wooden Arrows (Yew-Birch-Ash-Maple)

* Aluminum Arrows (Aluminum Alloys)

* Aluminum Carbon Arrows (Composite Alloy Type)

* Carbon Arrows (Carbon and Silicon Resins)

1) With the above comes definition. Arrow "spine" relates to the flexibility of an arrow type. A beginner would use wooden or aluminum arrows, which are more flexible. Beginners to intermediate archers should choose a "recurve bow" in the range of 60-80 lbf string pull. Flexible arrows are not affected by the lower velocity release of such arrows.

2). An intermediate to advanced archer using a "compound bow" rated at 100-160 lbs would choose a less flexible arrow. Carbon aluminum and silicon aluminum are used for bows that release at very high velocities. This high velocity release affects to distort the shafts end-to-end stability. A soft flexible shaft can lose its original sighting at release. A professional competitor will choose his arrows accordingly. So will hunters seeking an effective kill at long range.

3). Arrow "length" is determined by your arm length and the width of your shoulders, plus approximately two inches. With a friend and a tape measure, pull a professional draw stance as if ready to fire an arrow. Measure from the corner of your lip to the outside of your knuckles, on the extended arm. Add two inches and you're in the ballpark. It is best to have this measurement done at an archery pro shop.

Note: Though the general rule for arrow length is one inch past the front of your grip, the best thing is to have three inches. This way you can replace the notch or tip of the arrow more than once. It allows you to use the same arrow longer, saving money in the end.

Making Your Own Arrows

As a hobby, creating your own arrows is satisfying, and can be financially rewarding as well. Hobby support for archery is easily found online. There are too many options to discuss in this article, but I will point out the financial reward.

1). As a beginner and avid target archer, consider shooting only wooden arrows for practice. An arrow can become damaged easily, the feathers in particular. (AKA, flights, veins, fletching) When an arrow passes through a target the flights will be damaged to some degree. An arrow will lose its accuracy accordingly, but it can be easily repaired. Note that this kind of arrow damage is the only kind that can be safely repaired. Arrows with cracked shafts, damaged tips or bowstring notches (nocks), should be retired permanently.

2). I prefer real feather flights, as they ride well along the arrow guide on your bow when release occurs. There are several other types of flights made of plastic and other materials. The feather ones are easy to remove and replace multiple times, saving you money in not having to purchase new shafts as often. However, none of the fancy vein options should be considered until you are either a competitor or hunter. This is simply because you should want to keep costs down until you become more proficient.

3). Arrow tips are predominantly made of brass. Broadheads (tips) and other hunting types are usually made of carbon steel that has been black-chromed or painted flat-black. They are used exclusively for hunting large game animals. I recommend the use of target tips made of brass; they are very easy to attach using hot glue.

In summary, as a beginner, creating your own arrows can be fun and save lots of money. Blank wooden shafts, nocks, tips and flights can be easily found online. As a beginner, you'll be practicing a lot and loving that practice. Many arrows will be damaged and repaired where possible. The repair is a fun and rewarding hobby in itself. You can become very creative in making arrows, including cresting your arrows. This involves painting them in custom ways that are very self-satisfying bringing esthetic reward and awe from your friends. The purchase of manufactured arrows can become expensive, create your own.

Female Photography - A Fulfilling Hobby and a Lucrative Career

Female Photography

The female form has always been an exciting artistic concept in the world of arts. The fascination of immortalizing the female form has been boosted by the advent and growth of photography. There are different forms of the art today, some of which are journalistic and celebrity photography, glamour and boudoir, nudes, and self portrait. Now these are the steps to making the best photographic impression of the female gender.

Find a subject

The truth about making perfect female photography is creativity in diversity. Anybody can actually be your subject; young, old, any color, your relation or girlfriend...anybody. Hiring a model from any female form photography modeling agencies will also be a good choice, if you do not want to go the way of reforming to bring a fresh concept. All you need do first is to make sure your female subject is okay with your taking her pictures and that she will be willing to pose for you.

Set the Scene

Think about a place, and it is very suitable, depending on the concept you intend to portray. Get creative. You can use a photography studio, near some green foliage, a chair, a building environment, a beach or wherever you can find. If you need a good and easy lighting, then use a photography studio. If you want to be freer in scenery and movement, then go out there.

Lighting

To get a better lighting; use a soft bulb, instead of a flash. To create a good facial detail, let the light come from her left or right, and do not shine it straight on her. Bouncing the flash off the wall will sure get the same effect. Create good shadows and filler flashes with a soft side light to lighten the face of the lady. Light shadows are of course a better effect than dark ones or none.

Taking the shot

To create candid shots, use a long lens and make a little distance between you and your subject. A shorter lens and a closer proximity will create distorted facial features. Of course, this is not an acceptable effect. You can also use a tripod stand or put your camera on a surface to achieve steadiness. A small aperture and a long shutter speed is what you need. Encourage the subject to be still. Get ready to take as many pictures as your subject to moves and changes positions and expressions between each shot. You have the chance of taking better shots, and then the best as you take more shots.

The female photography art can be learned. There are many tricks in the trade. This is what gives specific characteristic to each form of photography, some of which are lighting, lens, design, filters and so on. Selection of location and props are also exciting things to learn in the trade. If you have true passion, the art of female photography will be easy to achieve for and you will possibly be on your way to a fulfilling hobby and a lucrative career.

Fun and Creative Summer Projects For Fathers and Sons

Summertime is the time for getting outside and having some fun. And there are lots of traditional ways to do this but this article looks at some unusual and different ways to enjoy the summer. The focus here is on projects that adults and children or teens can do together and with an eye toward learning and or making things.  And although the title of this article says for fathers and sons all the projects and ideas would be great for fathers and daughters too!

Become a Siege Engineer

Building a catapult or a trebuchet is a fun project that has strong tie-ins to engineering. You can easily build a small siege engine in a single day and then you can take it outside to launch any number of things from tennis balls to watermelons.  There are lots of online resources for finding plans on how to make siege engines around three feet in size.  And this type of project lends itself very well to design improvements. It is very common for young siege engineers to be constantly improving their new catapult. You can build a mid-sized catapult with just a few basic woodworking tools and a few pieces of two by four lumber.

Rocketing into the sky

Model rockets have been a steadfast hobby for many decades. It is very inexpensive to get started and you get a double dose of fun with them because you can spend an hour or two making the rockets then you can take them out and launch them. There is a duality here that is hard to resist. If you don't know anything about model rockets there are many beginner kits that are readily available. You can get everything you need to start this hobby including the launching pad and rocket engines around thirty or thirty five dollars.

Remote Controlled Fun

Remote controlled vehicles such as helicopters, airplanes, cars, and even boats can be a very rewarding pursuit in summer although the initial expense can be a bit high. There is also the added benefit of being able to make the projects before you take them out to fly or drive them. One of the best examples of this is remote controlled airplanes. Half the fun of the airplane comes in the making of it. And you can tailor the type of airplane to the age and skill level of your son or daughter. There are great beginner kits that can be assembled in a couple of hours and there are more advanced kits that take dozens of hours or more to make.

Make a Go Kart

This is a great project for teens because it is a bit more in-depth in both the making stage and the outdoor fun stage. You can spend several days making the go kart then it can be used all summer long. You also have the option of making a simple go kart that will roll down hills or getting elaborate and adding a motor to it. You can even start with the simple kart and later in the summer upgrade it by adding the motor.  There are many clubs that still engage in soapbox derby racing which adds a competitive dimension to this summer hobby.

Exploring the Sciences Outdoors

The Natural Sciences - All it takes is a field manual (that you can check out of the library) and a little time outdoors and you can do some discovering of how nature works. A few suggestions would be to study rock formations and geology, or to study botany and plant life. In both of these activities you can build a collection of plants, leaves, or rocks and minerals.  Half the fun is in collecting then identifying the specimens you collected. It is an easy task to find one of the sciences that might interest you and other family members. A good example is entomology where you can collect insects and display them in a case.

The sciences offer many opportunities in many different fields but my favorite is astronomy. This is a pursuit that can be started without spending any money. All you have to do is download and print a few star maps and you are ready to begin finding and identifying constellations and other heavenly bodies like planets. If you have a pair of binoculars it will add a whole new level of enjoyment to your star gazing.

If you are looking for something spectacular in astronomy you can consult with charts of meteor showers. There are several different meteor showers that occur during the summer months and some of them have a frequency of up to as many as sixty falling stars per hour. And if you are bitten by the astronomy bug the sky is virtually the limit in this hobby because you can upgrade and improve your viewing by buying a telescope or even making your own.

When it comes to the summer months there are lots of fun and traditional activities you can do like going to the beach or an amusement park but with a little thought and creativity you can take on some hobbies and projects that add whole new dimensions such as making things and learning about the world around us.

Natural Cure For Anxiety - Hobbies and Leisure Time

Your resume and CV would have one sub-point reserved for 'Hobbies'. Have you wondered why? Hobbies would often tell the employer what type of a person you are - happy, creative, intense, extrovert, introvert and so on; it would also indicate whether you allow creativity a free hand - a thing that is extremely important in personal and professional growth no matter what field you choose for yourself.

The founder of modern psychiatry, Sigmund Freud had pointed that mental disorders are more often than not the result of unrealized and un-integrated (with life) creativity. People who are normally forced into "successful" and demanding professions often choose to give up their hobbies or leisure time in order to further their career. The demands on their time being such, they rather take rest than indulge in their hobbies whenever a window of free time emerges. When there is no more time for fun, in walks anxiety uninvited and unwanted; and that is always bad news.

Leading psychiatrists are of the opinion that hobbies and leisure time occupations such as watching TV, gossiping with neighbors, walking in a park, learning a new language and so on, actually help your mind and body to de-stress. The process is simple - when you do something you love, your mind would shut off the problems that worry you and revel in the pleasure generated by the activity you enjoy. When your mind is off problems, your body relaxes and your mind is able to think with more clarity. This means you short-circuit an impending anxiety attack and are very likely to find a solution to your problems. Isn't that called a win-win situation?

Some people know what gives them pleasure to do - and cultivate this activity as a hobby or leisure time occupation. What about people who are undecided about what they would really like to do? If you are surprised at this, don't. There are many people out there who have never thought about it hard enough to identify what they would like to do for pleasure. Well, finding out is easy. Ask yourself this question, 'If I had all the money in the world and did not have to work for a living, what work would give me the most pleasure?' Do not look for one answer - because there would be many swimming in your mind and if you are looking for one answer you would be disappointed enough to stop searching.

Make a list of all the possibilities that pop up in your mind. Stop when you reach at reach at 20. Keep the list where you can see it every day. Give yourself a month to identify what you love to do. In the meantime, take out the list everyday and add or delete suggestions from it, aiming to narrow it down to 10 favorite activities - if you can reduce to less it would be even better. Once you have a list of 10 items prioritize these in order of your preference, the best one first. Now, the list would be do-able. Establish a time at least once a week where you would take up one or more of the activities on your list. Keep doing this until you identify what gives you the most pleasure among them all. Please keep in mind that you could choose more than one hobby.

Here are some examples of creative and fun-filled hobbies:
1. Photography
2. Creative writing - poems, snippets, how-to books, short stories, chicken-soup stuff, memoirs
3. Painting/ learning to paint
4. Drawing cartoons/ animation/ sketching
5. Model building - ships, airplanes, cars, buildings, and the like
6. Traveling to see the world
7. Traveling to learn about different customs and people
8. Historical traveling
9. Traveling to discover the taste of the world - for food lovers
10. Cooking/ baking
11. Stitching/ embroidering/ tailoring
12. Swimming/ skiing/ ice-skating/ any outdoor sport you love
13. Indoor sports - chess, carom, bowling, table tennis, billiards
14. Chatting on the Net
15. Surfing the Net
16. Singing/ playing an instrument/ learning to sing or play an instrument
17. Woodworking/ carpentry
18. Mechanic work/ working on cars, motorcycles
19. Horse riding
20. Training animals

These are only a handful of things you could do. The list is endless. You need to allow yourself enough time to identify the one or two activities that give you the most pleasure. Once you found it out, pour in all efforts to make it a full-time hobby. Ensure that every weekend you have a couple of hours reserved for your 'battery re-charging time' when you indulge in your pleasure.

You will find that as you channel your creativity into the chosen hobby(ies) you would feel more relaxed, tolerant of your mistakes and those of others, slower to anger and worry, and more productive. This is because when you are happy, your brain actually works more effectively. As you cannot cry and laugh at the same time, so you would not be able to feel anxious and relaxed at the same time. As your hobby would take root and you discover yourself through it, you would find that your anxiety or panic attacks become lesser and lesser both in intensity and number.

Easy and Creative Stop Motion Animation Techniques

Stop Motion Animation is a very creative hobby. It is also very inexpensive to start out in; and you can probably do it for no cost at all. All you need is a typical digital camera, some basic software, and a few ideas. Here are some thoughts and tips to get your creativity flowing in this hobby.

When thinking about doing some kind of animation you have to think outside the box and realize that just about anything at all will make a good subject. And you have to think about the fact that just about any medium will work well also.

Two Dimensional Ideas

Working in two dimensions gives you a lot of creative and inexpensive options. You can simply draw pictures on paper and erase then redraw them to show the motions you want to make. An alternative to erasing is to draw series of pictures on separate sheets of paper and photograph them individually. This can give you extraordinary results but is very challenging to make sure the images stay cleanly tracked without slippage which would make it very jerky and shaky.

An excellent way to draw pictures is to use some kind of an erasable surface. This tends to be much easier than drawing pictures on paper and two excellent mediums for this are the dry erase board and the chalkboard. These make it very easy to erase potions of your drawing and redraw the motions. I highly recommend using a dry erase board if you want to get some great looking animations and if you have some skill in drawing.

Drawing images of figures and objects then cutting them out and using them in animations is an excellent way to get very creative and very expressive animations. There are two important additions you can make to this style of animation. You can cut the drawing into segments to show motion. An example of this would be to draw a human form then cut it into its different parts like arms, legs, head and torso. This way you can move them individually much as a human moves. Another way to enhance cut out drawings is to make multiple drawings of the same object to show motion or rotation. A good example of this would be a face. You would draw multiple faces such as one with the mouth closed and one with the mouth open. This way you can alternate between the drawings and simulate talking.

Three Dimensional Animation

There are some exciting possibilities available to you when you start to think about doing animation in three dimensions. And the first place you could start is with clay or play-doh. If you don't have any of these materials you can easily make some out of flour, salt and water. Another very simply yet very expressive technique is to use wire. You can easily shape it into figures and objects. It holds its shape well yet is easy to manipulate into simulations of motion. Wire is so effective that it is often the frame over which many modern figures are made. This technique is called using a wire armature.

Action figures and dolls make great animation subjects as long as they have movable joints and body parts so you can articulate them. But you don't have to stick with that. Just about any three-dimensional object can be used in interesting ways. You can draw small eyes, noses, and mouths then attach them to any object and come up with an interesting anthropomorphic little project. You can even carve potatoes or apples and get some great videos. And just moving objects around can be the source of some interesting videos. Watching furniture move around a room can be a good idea or watching items move around a desk can also be interesting.

Animating yourself and the real world is also a fun way to approach the hobby. If you stand at attention and take a picture then move forward six inches, stand at attention and take another picture you can come up with a great series of pictures that show you magically sliding around without moving your feet. You can also do the same thing by jumping into the air and snapping a picture of yourself. Move forward six inches, jump, and snap another picture. With this technique you can create an animation that shows you floating around.

Some final tips

Don't forget the camera. If you really want to make your animations special you should move the camera as you take your series of pictures. You can do this by either zooming in or out or panning from side to side. This moving of the camera is the single best way to make your animations stand out.

While the medium you use for your animation is very important and can turn a plain animation into something special to look at you should put some time and thought into the story of the animation. This is what can turn it into something truly remarkable. Surprise your viewers and keep them guessing as to what will happen next.

Just about anything in your every day world can be transformed into something extraordinary with a little bit of animation magic and a little bit of creativity. Just look around your house and you will discover lots of great ideas.
